    Description

An original photogravure from the scarce first edition Joseph Dixon and Rodman Wanamaker book "The Vanishing Race," published by Doubleday, Page and Co. in 1913, which chronicled the Last Great Indian Council of Chiefs. Like the work of Edward Curtis, Wanamaker's photogravures are prized for their emotive, arresting imagery of Indians - and are equally scarce and eminently collectible. Richly printed on fine paper and bearing the plate mark of the gravure printing process. This plate is a beautiful portrait of Chief Bull Snake. Image size is 6.5" by 4.25", overall area of plate is 6.5" by 9.75". In excellent condition save for some small tears to top edge of margin, which would frame out. This is an original plate from the first edition, not a reprint. Please check my other listings for additional Wanamaker gravures.
