    For sale is a vintage brass
    "Silent Butler"
    , aka crumb catcher, made in China. (Also frequently referred to as covered ashtrays.)
    Items like this were very popular souvenirs brought home from Hong Kong in the 30's 40's and 50's. It is impossible to date it more accurately because of the lack of any markings. I am comfortable saying it was most likely made between 1929 and 1955.
    This brass crumb catcher has a raised floral design with different color cabochons.  We would assume that these cabochons are glass and not stones, but I could be wrong.
    This piece is in excellent undamaged condition with patina, especially around the raised brass and stones.
    (I polished one very similar to this one, using Brasso and it cleaned up very nicely)
