Title:Photo of Chief Weasel Feather
Description:
Presented for your consideration is this nice portrait of the famous Blackfoot Indian, Chief Weasel Feather. The photograph portrait is a waist up portrait of Feather in full Native American attire. The photo was taken at an upward angle with natural side lighting. The photograph has rich black and white tones and the image is crisp and clear. The photograph was taken by Ray L. Schwehin who was a member of the Photographic Society of America. There is a tag on the back that has information on the portrait. This tag reads "Chief Weasel Feather Ray Schwehin P.S.A. 7413 No. Damen Ave. Chicago, Ill. Pottawattamie Camera Club Chicago, Ill. Print No. 1." This print dates to at least 1934 as the Photographic Society of America was not established until 1934. Given the tag on the back and the beautiful presentation of the photograph this was most likely a submission to one of the Pottawattamie Camera Club's print contests in Chicago during the 1940s-50s. This club taught courses in photography and held lectures in relation to photography. The portrait is presented on a wide, white mount in a beautiful wooden frame. This nice looking portrait would make a great addition to any Native American memorabilia or vintage photograph collection!
A small surface chip is in the bottom inside edge of the frame. Light frame wear. The mount and photograph appear to be free of damage. Overall in EXCELLENT condition. Please refer to the photos for the absolute best details.
Photograph alone measures 12 3/4" long by 8 1/2" wide.
Entire item measures 23 3/4" long, 19 3/4" wide and 3/4" thick.
