Description
This beautiful Chinese bookend is dated in the 1930s.It is made of cherry wood, hand-tooled brass, and an intricate jade center design.
The last photo shows best the jade carved in the shape of a bird (tail at bottom with head about midway),
two flowers, and leaves.
The four brass corner pieces resemble birds in flight while the three pieces securing the jade resemble butterflies.
There is extensive symbolic leaf engraving on the brass plate.
It is in very good condition with only minor wear consistent with its age - no breaks, chips, or repairs.
None of the brass has been polished in order to maintain the patina.
Please see photos for more details.
The bookend is 6 1/4" tall and the brass base is 4 1/4" wide and 4 3/4" deep.
